this is not looking good for the kids.

"Monday July 27, 2009 5:30 p.m. Good Evening from the First Alert Storm Center
Portland tied its record high today of 102? and Vancouver tied its 103? record high, both set in 1958. Several other towns were within a degree or two of records. Regardless of whether they were broken or not, the heat stays on through Wednesday at least. An Excessive Heat Warning is up for from the Cascades to the beaches through Wednesday. Highs Tuesday should reach 104? in the valleys with 105? likely on Wednesday. Slight cooling arrives Thursday, but real relief likely won?t arrive until late in the weekend."

That heat sucks big time dude.

I went to two Home Depots, one Sears, one Lowes, one Fry's and I can tell you that there are approximately ten air conditioners available for sale in Seattle...none I can use.

Oh, yes, Fry's is terrible. Every time I go there I swear it's going to be the last.

On the plus side...this time next week I will be at Shi-Shi beach/Point of Arches on the Olympic Peninsula...one of them most beautiful places in the world and decidedly cooler than here.

I am going to combine this and your answer to the wood boat fest.

we are not rich and retired either but its a nice way to see pretty boats and we get to go hang out at the Hoa and Shi Shi. we just combine the trips. this year i am thinking of bringing Tari Tari up so i can show her to a friend of mine that will be at the show. shes nothing like as big or ruggedly beautiful as the Joshua but well they are diffrent boats. I think they will look good together. Sides i owe the old man a bottle of wine.

hmm we have not been to the Victoria boat fest we will have to see if we can get a teaching gig up there around that time. a little dallying time is always good.

Great idea...I have been going to Shi-Shi since about 1972. I am doing a documentary on a group of artists that lived in some fishermens shacks at the mouth of the north fork of the Skagit. The shacks were there from the days of river mouth net fishing. Anyway...they had a "summer place" at Shi-Shi...on the north bank of Petroleum Creek. Triangular place...like a pyramid. A pane of glass about 6 feet long and two feet high...you could look out at the breakers. That's living.

hmm we will have to go look for that. theres several natural builders in the area. and i would bet dollars to dough nuts they know where it is. last year we took our honey moon at the Hoa. good time of year for it the elk where in rut and there where chicken of the woods all over the place. so we got center stage at the fights and a mess of good dinners. think we spent the entry fees to the park and that was about it.

The shacks at Shi-Shi were torn down when the Park service took over in the mid 70s.

There was the triangular shack build by Robert Sund, a Fishtown poet, and the miners' shack...a rough affair build by some "miners" who spent the time on the claim drinking whiskey. Rascals.

I believe i am too much a child of rain forest and seas sometimes. there are few things i like better than a good storm in the rain forest and some time at sea off the coast of the same.

The National Weather Service predicts that the heat wave will last at least through Friday.
The forecast calls for Wednesday and Thursday will be the hottest days. In fact, Wednesday could end up being the hottest day ever recorded on any date. Highs those days are expected to be in the upper 90s but could reach 100 or even 104 in some areas.

Looks like Wed is a good day to go sailing :)

I'll be in PT for the festival. I always have a good time there, usually during the afterhours events. I'm neither a hippy nor rich. I am smart and charming, however. Humble too.

I hope to cruise Big Food up there from Shilshole, then catch a tow back to Seattle behind someone's boat. I will probably tie up wherever Zulu is hanging out.

Its almost 80 here on the coast and i cant take it, I know thats not hot anywhere else but we never can get used to hot weather here as we only get it a few weeks a year.

If it stays hot the fog moves in after a few days, Being close to the ocean sometimes its pea soup all day!!!!.

If no fog NW winds set in

Movie theaters are packed in Seattle when the heat arrives. So are the malls, Barnes and Nobles, and the grocery stores. Fred Meyer was packed at 10 p.m. last night. I went to wander the store and escape the heat. So did everybody else. It was like Christmas, except we were all holding watermelons.

Typically I believe it depends on where the air around you came from. I am less familiar with how the air flows work out in your area, but here in New England a typical pattern would be cold air flowing down from Canada versus warm humid area getting pulled up from the mid-Atlantic region. The jet streams play a role in this and often have a role in setting longer term weather patterns, and individual high and low pressure systems the fronts associated with them also play a major role.

True enough. Sadly the nearby places to go boating aren't where one would like to swim.

Pool in back yard is inviting, and Hurricane Harber water park is nearby.

I am reminded on the gentleman on Raritan Bay many years ago. Very hot. No wind. Couldn't stand it. Jumped overboard to cool off.

Then realized he had no way to back back in his boat.

If I were in Michigan I would be in the lake all the time....
Puget Sound isnt conducive to this however.

Perhaps with my wetsuit.

If I fell overboard I might be able to grab the shrouds and swing my legs up. Might be worth experimenting with before I run into a real situation though.

umm what is a rooster carp? is it something that came from the ohio river or one of those other toxic back east waterways?

or is it some kinda lake dweller from a containment pond.

gotta ask Bobby. but I think it is pretty disreputable. he said I have to pm him.
