Hello forumites, my first post and thought I'd throw up a link to some great pics. of some nice boats. The Oughtred fans may have already posted this link before but what the heck, still pleasant to ogle.

Iain Oughtred is a living god! The best artist of any boat designer since the Oseberg karv.

When you're Iain Oughtred, you never row the same boat twice.
Great album. I love the giant numbers painted toward the bow. Really charming.

I've been drueling over Oughtred's designs for about a year now and hope to build an Arctic Tern someday.
TerryLL,
We're nearly neighbors, I'm over in the Flathead Valley, NW MT. Been through Sand Pt. a time or three on the way to Spokane. Have some old high school friends who have the sports shop (skis in winter and bikes in summer) in the downtown area. Forgot the name though.
Wanted to thank all the posters on here for such great information. Beautiful boats and a great bunch of people!
I'm sure I'll be learning volumes from here on out.

What a lovely batch of images. Thanks!
Ooh, there's a picture of a Eun Mara with a spinnaker! :-) It's not like she was undercanvassed to start with...

Yup, an ugly, mismatched, inappropriate spinnaker :p But I applaud the fellow's ambition :D
Yup, and ugly, mismatched, inappropriate spinnaker :p But I applaud the fellow's ambition :D
On the other hand, that fellow is the guy who commissioned the first Eun Mara from Iain Oughtred and, as I understand, took an active part in her design :D

I was all set to start a CY build, had the plans in hand. Then a very nice FG boat sort of fell in my lap and the CY build is on hold. Next time you pass through Sandpoint send me a PM and I'll give you a tour of the shop, or hit the lake if the boat is in the water.

Great post, and lovely pics. My youngest is hot to build his "AUK". Have got to start on it. My CY will have to wait until I have a shop.
I was hoping there'd be a picture of his design shed.I will write and ask if he is going to offer it as a design.

Sounds great, thanks for the invite.
What flavor is the new FG boat? I had an Oslo 18 that I inherited from my father. All glass but had the lapstrake hull, kind of a Folkboat wanna be. Nice sailor but let it go about ten years ago(wish I hadn't....old story).
I'm sure at some point the CY bug will sink it's teeth a little deeper and before you know it the saw dust will start to fly.

Cape Dory Typhoon. Nice boat, but alas, not wood.

Great pictures. They provide a lot of inspiration, which I really need right now. After looking at my plans for the John Dory for over 15 years, I finally decided to build ... an Arctic Tern (I reckon the JD will come later). I've almost wrapped up fairing the backbone and will be starting planking soon.
BTW, is the Caledonia Yawl forum at http://mavc2002.com/cyforum/index.php active? I see some relatively new posts, but I have been trying to register for a month without success.

Yes, The CY forum is alive and well, though not as active as it once was. The moderator, Nick, posed a couple days ago, and there are a couple new posts today.

Gazzer,
Nick, of the CY forum, had all sorts of trouble with spam accounts/logins, so he disabled the auto registration. Now new users have to wait until he manually looks at each request and makes a call if it's legit or not. If you would like, PM me and give me the email address you are using and your name and I can forward it off to Nick. That way he'll know you are a real boat nut and not a kiddie porn spammer.
Cheers,
Garth

Spectacular photos. Thanks. I particularly like the photos of the gunter-rigged JeanieII, and the close-up of Oughtred with the blue hat and the huge grin is wonderful. It shows how much he enjoys doing what he does.
