Hi all,
Wondering if anyone out there owns this tool. I just learned about it today and it has my wheels spinning - so here goes...
This tool not only rabbets but it also has a cutter that is concave that would be perfect for backing out planks. It will also scarf planks quickly, mill deck beams, chines, and all of the typical tasks that can be accomplished by your standard power planer.
Festool makes very high-end tools and this one comes with a hefty price tag of around $500. I am considering it only because I think I might be able to mill my keelson with rabbeting work that is normally done with a mallet, chisel and my stanley hand rabbet tool.
Currently, I have a 20 footer going and if I could mill my white oak keelson before morning coffee break I would be dancing a good jig!!! This task could take me many hours in the shop using just my hand tools.
I imagine the trick will be to gently tilt the angle of the plane as I move fore and aft. Could be a disaster or it might just work.
I have a Festool rep who is going to stop by my shop to help me determine if the tool will handle my specific application.
Thanks in advance for your feedback...
Glenn
