Hi All
I'm doing the rope work for a new Ness Yawl. I'd like to eye splice 3/16" double braided nylon but don't have a fid. Does anyone know the diameter and lengths for a fid for line this small so I can make my own?

for double braided line, the fid is used to feed the outer braid through the inner braid (core). You basically need the smallest diameter tube that you can still cram the outer braid into. The y make plastic ones but the thickness of the plastic makes the over all diameter too big to work with easily. The metals ones are much better.
You can use an old aluminum arrow shaft for larger diameter lines, the end with the notch is already pointed too. For smaller diameter line you can probably get a small brass tube from a HW or hobby store and taper one end.
